What does the report say about Southern Mongolia?

The report recognises three possible futures for our homeland, known under occupation as the “Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region”:

  1. Independence – reclaiming sovereignty for Southern Mongols.
  2. Remaining as an “autonomous” region of China – the failed status quo.
  3. Unification with the Republic of Mongolia – unlikely due to demographic and governance realities.

The Hudson Institute concludes that the United States should support Southern Mongolia’s sovereign independence — not just as a moral imperative, but as a strategic policy stance.

Why does this matter?

For decades, Southern Mongolia has faced relentless forced assimilation:

  • The CCP has erased the Mongolian language from schools and media.
  • Massive demographic engineering has turned Mongols into a minority in their own land — 5 million Mongols against 19 million Han settlers.
  • Protests, like those in 2020 when parents pulled children from schools, were met with surveillance, arrests, and threats.

The Hudson report openly acknowledges this reality — something governments have too often ignored.

A U.S. shift — or the start of one?

This is the first major Western policy paper to break the silence and put Southern Mongolia on the map for the day after the CCP falls.

“The United States should expect Inner Mongolia to declare sovereign independence, and if this happens, it should be prepared to support it.” – Hudson Institute, July 2025

For Southern Mongols around the world, this is more than analysis — it is a recognition that our struggle is not forgotten.

What’s next for us?

This report will not free Southern Mongolia overnight. But it opens the door to serious international conversations about our future. We must seize this moment:

  • Share the report with friends, allies, and policymakers.
  • Educate the public about what “Southern Mongolia” really means — and why independence is not just possible, but necessary.
  • Push other think tanks, governments, and organisations to follow Hudson’s lead.

The world is starting to listen. We have to make sure it hears our voice — loud, clear, and unstoppable.
